IT'S COMING

Dear MED1ATORS,

Apologies for not updating in a while. I know it's been a year. We've had to take a major holiday from all the hoopla from Soundwave>Series ((2)). Our artists have not slowed down however. The past year have seen acclaimed new shows, exhibitions, performances, projects, records and books abound for MEDIATE artists. And we couldn't be more proud. Go to www.me-di-ate.net/artists.html for direct links to the exciting new artists activities.

Which brings me back to us. For the past 8 months, MEDIATE has been hard at work on the new season of Soundwave with the theme of MOVE>SOUND. We are trying to get major funding for the first time and developing an array of amazing jaw-dropping shows. I am amazed already at our Open Call for Proposals. The quality of the artists and the ingenuity of performances will simply blow you away.

In the coming months, it will be right here where we will first announce our artist line-up and give you a glimpse into their work and what they have planned for Soundwave.

So stay tuned. You will be MOVED like never before.

INFORMATION:  (415) 602-8557   www.mobudancestudio.com

Takami & MoBu Dance Group collaborate with Kana Tanaka (glass installation artist) and Jorge Bachmann (sound artist) to transform Project Artaud Theater into a magical realm wherein the audience is invited to question reality and the nature of truth.

Takami states "the word 'illusion' has many interpretations, the first being a false idea or belief.  In our lives, what we hold to be the truth that which we want to believe in our relationships and everyday life - often turns out to be false, or based more in fantasy than reality.  Sometimes we even want something to be true so badly that we begin to believe it...if we repeat it over and over, truth ceases to be an illusion, and in effect, becomes more real than truth itself.  Indeed, illusion is often more comfortable and less frightening than reality."

Remembering Jeffery Ketcham

I recently found out a good friend and artist passed away.

Jeffery Ketcham was kind, creative, sweet, hugely stubborn and completely big-hearted, with a vibrant soul to match. He was a handsome man with a deep sexy voice to match. He was an incredible artist, he could not do anything else. He showed me his amazing ideas and sketches and all the beautiful art and pieces around his house. He gave me one of his pieces for my birthday which I will cherish forever. He helped me out when I was down and out, and was so giving and loving person. He loved his 2 wienerschnitzels (dogs) that ruled the roost and, rightly so, were completely infatuated with him.

Thank you for being my friend Jeffrey. I am so happy for you to have been part of my life. Your spirit and work lives on.
With Love, Alan.

Jeffery Ketcham

TARENTEL Performs Live to Films of Paul Clipson

TARENTEL's Danny Grody (The Drift) performs live to Films of Paul Clipson.

*CELLULOID SKETCHES & WATERCOLOR MOVIES*

Films by Paul Clipson
Screening with live music by Tarentel

Friday, December 1, 2006
8 PM
$5-7

"A screening of experimental super 8mm films and music illuminating the results of an ongoing collaboration between local filmmaker/artist Paul Clipson and Bay Area band Tarentel. Stream of conciousness, in-camera editing, dissolves and superimpositions of nature, urban landscapes and unknown spaces vast and small, collide with Tarentel's improvised sound collages of instruments, rhythms and walls of noise to produce a series of short films experimenting with the chance continuity of image meeting with sound. The evening concludes with a live performance by Tarentel accompanying a new film by Paul."

*Also, please tune in to KUSF 90.3 on the FM dial Friday the 12/1 @ 10:30 a.m. to hear a live interview with me and Paul Clipson discussing working together, sharing stories, playing music we like, and preview some of the newer Tarentel releases.

TALAT CD Release Party

TALAT has just released a new cd on John Zorn's cutting edge Label Tzadik Records mixed by world music legened Bill Laswell.

The CD release party happened at Brooklyn's Zebulon club in Whyte and Metropolitan Ave in Wlliamsburg Nov 30th 10:30 pm Free ! Also on the bill was the cool Rashanim band at 9pm !

"Dynamic new ensemble based in New York that plays original music crossing the borders of Jazz, Middle Eastern Groove and Klezmer. Featuring a quintet of some of the most talented players out of the new generation, this is a brilliant debut CD that will delight fans of Masada, Rashanim, Satlah and the Hasidic New Wave. Loping melodies, catchy hooks and improvisational fireworks from a new generation bringing Jewish music to exciting new places..." JOHN ZORN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This Quintet brings something unxepected to every track, playing blues, funk and even mellower tunes has compelling chemistry in abundance. This kind of fluidity cannot be accomplished unless solid relationships are both ecnouraged and formed between musicians."
ALL ABOUT JAZZ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Fans of the band Masada, should revel! the quintet seamlessly merges Jewish Klezmer stylizations with Middle Eastern modalities into a largely, persuasive modern jazz vibe. With sonorous flows, prophetic themes and propulsive shifts in momentum, the musicians indulge in tension/release episodes, topped off with melodic storylines, where the artists fuse explorative frameworks with a dancehall type sensibility. Overall, this is a radiantly produced session, firmed-up by the group’s conveyance of good cheer and excellence in execution."

Matt Davignon Releases SoftWetFish

Soundwave>Series' Matt Davignon releases new CD "SoftWetFish" on venerable Bay Area's experimental label Edgetone Records. SoftWetFish is Matt's second CD to use drum machine as the only sound source (after 2005's "Bwoo"). Not at all like the rhythms and beats one would expect, the sounds are very abstract, characterized by organic tapestries, drones, frantic passages and lovely flaws.

"..it’s twisted sound manipulation, distorting a number of doctored instruments to create a sound that’s sometimes spare and crackling, alternately taking turns into what ’70s kraut rock may have sounded like to dolphins — fragile and gorgeous and stubbornly weird." - Michael Harkin, San Francisco Bay Guardian
